Paris Fashion Week Recap: Top 5 from Spring / Summer 2021 Runway

Updated: Nov 17, 2020

To the end to a fashion month like no other. With a mix-up to the normal presentations, designers went out of their comfort zone and explored their creative processes bringing a new and exciting look to fashion month. We saw artistic freedom, a new respect for nature, digitalized formats that created inclusion to a broader audience and creations that provided both practical and emotional designs; all to move the industry forward.

Here are our Top 5 from Paris:

  • Head-To-Toe Leather: With leather continuing to be a staple on the runway, we saw head-to-toe dressing continue from AW20. Find newness in openwork, volume and new neutral colorways.

Designers: Ralph & Russo, Kristina Fidelskaya, Gabriela Hearst

  • Openwork: All types of openwork techniques were presented with crochet and laser perforation being the most seen. These techniques transform the fabric to create interest and texture.

Designers: Gabriela Hearst | Dries Van Noten | Elie Saab | Longchamp | Kristina Fidelskaya

  • Matching Sets: Matching set dominated the SS21 presentations. Seen in all types of fabrications, silhouettes and patterns; dress it up or dress it down to make an effortless and cool look that all can pull off.

Designers: Alessandra Rich | Issey Miyake | Xuly.Bët | Ami Alexandre Mattiussi | Studio Rice

  • Crying Flowers: In the unanticipated passing of the beloved Kenzo Takada, the "Crying Flowers" presented in the Kenzo SS21 Collection took on a new meaning. Florals pulled from the archives, recolored and reworked with a digital crying effect was originally meant as a metaphor of the state of the world.

Designers: Kenzo

  • Pajama Dressing: Stay in your comfort zone while looking like your didn't just roll out of bed (although you could have). With more people staying at home, pajama dressing is evolving with new iterations plus it seems like a no-brainer trend to latch on to if you haven't already.

Designers: Lutz Huelle | F.R.S. For Restless Sleepers | Kristina Fidelskaya | Paul & Joe | Dice Kayek
